John Torchetti's mission of guiding the Los Angeles Kings into the playoffs for the first time in four years begins as he makes his coaching debut against the Nashville Predators at the Staples Center.

Torchetti was hired Tuesday as interim coach of the Kings when general manager Dave Taylor fired Andy Murray.

John Torchetti had something in his coaching debut that his predecessor was missing since the Olympic break - a healthy Alexander Frolov in the lineup.

Frolov returned from a shoulder injury and scored the tying and go-ahead goals in the third period to lift Los Angeles to a 6-4 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night.

"It's all about the players every night," Torchetti said. "We can stand there and tell them what to do, but they're doing it.

Kings-Flames Preview



GAME: Los Angeles Kings (38-29-5) at Calgary Flames (39-24-8).

TIME: Wednesday, 8:30 p.m. EST.

Though they could miss the playoffs altogether, the Calgary Flames also could very possibly claim the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Kings would be happy with any seed.

The Flames return home from an unsuccessful road trip to face the Kings in a matchup of teams fighting to make the postseason.

Burrows hat trick leads Canucks



Alexandre Burrows scored two his three goals during a 3-minute span late in the second period and the Vancouver Canucks rallied to beat the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 on Monday night.

After the Canucks blew a lead in the period, Burrows tied it with 5:50 left, banging in a rebound of his own deflection.

Brendan Morrison gave the Canucks the lead with 3:17 to go in the period on a backdoor play, and Burrows - who had gone 21 games without a goal - added his second of the game 32 seconds later.

Alexandre Burrows had the biggest night of his life in the Vancouver Canucks' biggest game of the season.

After going 21 games without a goal, Burrows scored two of his three during a 3-minute span late in the second period and the Canucks rallied to beat the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 on Monday night.
